Hey it’s been six months since Diaspora went out the door and (consequently) since VSCA Publishing came into being. So here’s the numbers so far:
Diaspora vendor sales: 178
Diaspora direct sales: 493
Diaspora total: 671
Deluge direct sales: 30
So that puts us in pretty good shape to meet our (arbitrary) goal of 1,000 copies of Diaspora in the first year. Happy.

You know, there was a thread fairly recently on Story Games that made a claim: It was almost impossible to make 2,000 sales on an indie roleplaying game in the first two years without: a significant con presence, a previous rep or “big company” funding. Something like that.
I’m astounded at your success, and think it’s really cool that in a year and a half you might be able to shoot down those claims with hard numbers. Yay!
Well, we got lucky with some help from some other “big names” which I think has made all the difference. Fred Hicks set us up with Chris Hanrahan of EndGame and the team at Leisure Games for retail sales, and both of these stores have a con presence. So in a way, we did have a con presence — we just didn’t go ourselves. I don’t know exactly what effect that had — and that’s the lark of most of these “analyses”, the idea that in knowing what happened we also might now what might have happened differently — but it can’t have been bad.
Even still, 2000 is a reasonable goal for us, I think. It’s certainly not a sure thing, but if we ever find that Story Games thread, we can say hey, good call. I know we have benefitted from the kindness of others, but we’re making a good run for it, I feel. (And thanks to all those who have helped along the way!).

Congratulations! It’s been really exciting and gratifying watching this product go from a view to a kill. I’m proud that you are representing Canada in the gaming community as well.
